RosieQueen Latifah was born Dana Elaine Owens, March 18, 1970 in Newark. The second daughter of Lance and Rita Owens, Latifah is most famous for her involvement in performance skills, political stance and ability to rhyme. A Muslim cousin gave Latifah the nickname "delicate, sensitive" at the age of eight years old. Latifah was a singer in the choir of the church of Shiloh located in Bloomfield, New Jersey. She had her first public performance when she sang "Home" as one of the two Dorothys in a production of The Wizard of Oz. Latifah was in the footsteps of her mother, who was in constant touch with the school and the musicians. Mark James, a local disc jockey who is also called D.J., was invited to the celebration.
